2021 Volkswagen Arteon Prices, Reviews, and Pictures


The 2021 Volkswagen Arteon sedan has a hatchback body, but it’s also stylish and practical. The four-door’s stunning exterior is lost when it comes down to its driving performance. It has a turbocharged, four-cylinder turbo engine and provides excellent steering feedback. However, these qualities don’t make it very engaging. The interior of the VW isn’t as luxurious as the premium model. However, it has limo-like passengers and can store a lot of cargo under the rear hatch. The 2021 Arteon, a model that bears the brand’s iconic logo is still the most beautiful. It shows that VW continues to be a major player in passenger cars, at least for the moment.

What’s new for 2021?

Volkswagen updates the interior and exterior design of the 2021 Arteon with a variety of new details. New front bumpers and wheel designs are included in the first, as well as the adoption of Volkswagen’s new logo. The R-Line is differentiated with more distinctive features. All models now come in Kings Red metallic paint, while the R-Line adds Oryx White or Lapiz Blue. The Arteon’s interior features better materials and redesigned parts, which seem to address some of our concerns. Highlights include a thicker, more distinct steering wheel, intricate air vents and touch-sensitive climate controls. Pricing and Which One To Buy

The SEL R-Line is our favorite because it combines style with standard features. The R-Line’s mid-range model has a distinctive front that features an illuminated light bar in its grille and a sportier bumper. The cabin is also equipped with cool ambient lights, wireless charging, and a more luxurious interior. Standard features include lane-keeping assistance and recognition of traffic signs. We’d choose Lapiz Blue as our Arteon, which has flashier colors.

Performance, Transmission and Engine

The Arteon’s turbocharged, 268-hp four-cylinder engine is mated with an eight-speed automatic transmission. The majority of versions come with either front-wheel drive or an optional all-wheel drive. Only the SEL Premium has all-wheel-drive. The Arteon is available with either 18-, 19 or 20-inch wheels depending on its trim level. The all-wheel-drive test car ran 6.4 seconds to 60 mph in a sprint, slower than V-6-powered competitors like the Toyota Avalon or the Nissan Maxima. Because the VW’s powertrain was tuned to efficiency, acceleration can be a little soft. Standard features include adaptive suspension dampers that can be set to adjust to your driving style, or manually to Comfort, Normal or Sport. The ride is controlled and smooth, regardless of what setting you choose. The precise steering recalls the 10Best-winning Golf GTI and the handling is competent. However, you won’t mistake this large VW for a sports sedan.

Fuel Economy and Real World MPG

Front-wheel-drive Arteons are rated at 22 mpg city and 32 highway. The all-wheel-drive version achieves 20 mpg in the city and 31 on the highway. The latter was tested on our 75-mph highway fuel economy route. It achieved an impressive 37 MPG. A front-wheel-drive Arteon has yet to be tested.

Interior, Comfort, & Cargo

The interior of the VW Arteon has high-quality materials but lacks design flair. VW managed to squeeze plenty of interior space from the five-door’s large profile. Two six-footers with large frames can ride in front of each other without ever having to rub elbows. The rear seating is also very accommodating and offers a noticeable improvement in legroom over the VW Passat. The Arteon’s hatchback has a large cargo area of 27 cubic feet. With the back seat folded, we were able to fit nine suitcases behind the rear seat. All Arteons have heated front seats. However, the SEL Premium model adds ventilation to those seats and a massage function for the driver. Heated rear seats are also included.

Connectivity and Infotainment

Every Arteon comes standard with an 8.0 inch touchscreen infotainment screen. The touchscreen infotainment system is controlled primarily by touch inputs. There’s no volume knob anymore, but there are touch-sensitive controls on each side of the wheel. The VW also has two USB ports and wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto. The SEL offers navigation and wireless charging. The Premium R-Line has a powerful Harman/Kardon sound system. A Volkswagen Car-Net subscription includes additional connected features such as remote vehicle unlocking or emergency assistance.
